This
series consists of miscellaneous records of the Sussex Brigade of
the New Jersey Militia (i.e., the "Sussex Militia") from
the period 1768-1840. The documents were County Clerk's and County
Collector's filings and include the following: receipts of fines
levied for non-performance of military duty, reports of delinquents
not attending training, certificates of election of officers, pay
vouchers for submission of militia rolls, and paymasters' performance
bonds/oaths of office.
The documents are arranged in chronological order. All places referred
to in the item descriptions below are in New Jersey unless otherwise
indicated.
