Note
On
11 April 1855, the New York state legislature authorized and provided
for the appraisal and acquisition of lands in New York flooded as
a result of the damming of the outlet of Long Pond (Greenwood Lake)
by the Morris Canal and Banking Company. The lands (and titles)
acquired were to be vested in the canal company during its corporate
existence. In October and November of that year, a survey
was made by W. H. Wood, Civil Engineer and City Surveyor, Jersey
City. The survey book is dated 21-22 November 1855.
For a plotting made from the survey in May 1925, see item 23 in
Box C of the series Maps and Drawings, 1820s-1970s. |
