Hunterdon County - Surrogate's Office
Hunterdon County was formed from the northern portion of original Burlington County on 11 March 1714. Consult the Burlington County page linked below for pre-1714 records.
The northern portions of original Hunterdon County were set off as Morris County in 1739. The southern portion became part of present-day Mercer County in 1838. Recording of wills and estate inventories at the county level began in 1804. Orphans Courts were established in 1785.
