Sussex County - Clerk's Office, Courts and Miscellaneous
Sussex County was formed from the western portion of original Morris County on 8 June 1753. Consult the Morris County page linked below for pre-1753 records. The southern portion of old Sussex County was set off as Warren County in 1824.
County clerks were required by law to file copies of deeds beginning in 1785 and mortgages beginning in 1766. Consult the Secretary of State page linked below for colonial deed filings.
